Who we are
This website, https://quartertonemusician.com, is run by Brandon Quinn (“we”, “us”). If you have a question about this policy or your information, use the contact form.
The short version: the site works without collecting anything about you. Analytics run only if you say yes. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you press play on a video. If you send us a message, your details are used only to reply.
Analytics (only with your consent)
When you first visit, a banner asks whether we may use Google Analytics. Nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookie is set unless you choose “Accept analytics”. If you choose “Decline”, or close or ignore the banner, analytics stay off.
If you accept, the Google tag (GT-WK2RNF3K) loads and Google Analytics records which pages you view, how you arrived (for example, the referring site), your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. It sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to two years. We use these reports only to see which pages people read and which tools they use. Google processes this data under the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage under the key qtm-analytics-consent; it is not sent anywhere. If you close the banner with the Escape key without choosing, a note that you closed it is kept in your browser for the current session only, so it doesn’t reappear on every page. You can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” at the bottom of every page. Withdrawing consent stops analytics and deletes the Google Analytics cookies this site set.
Contact form
When you send a message, your name, email address, subject and message are emailed to us so we can reply. They are kept in our mailbox for as long as needed to handle your message. To limit spam, the server keeps a short-lived counter for each IP address, stored as a one-way hash and used only to cap the number of messages per hour.
Videos (YouTube)
The repertoire, etude and other videos on this site are hosted on YouTube. Each video is shown as a picture with a play button; the picture is stored on this site, and nothing is requested from YouTube while you browse. Only when you press play does the page load the player from youtube-nocookie.com, YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. From then on YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and information about your browser, and may store information on your device, as it would on its own site. That is governed by the Google Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab).
Apps
The apps (tuner, chord creator, scale creator, ear training, transposer and 24-tone row matrix generator) and the Circle of Neutral Thirds run entirely in your browser. The tuner asks for access to your microphone only after you press its start button; the sound is analysed on your device and is not recorded or sent anywhere. You can withdraw microphone access at any time in your browser’s site settings.

Links to other websites
Sheet-music stores, software makers and other sites linked from this site have their own privacy practices. Links to them open in a new tab, and this site shares nothing with them beyond what your browser sends when you follow a link.
Hosting and server logs
Like most web servers, the server that hosts this site records requests in log files, including IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time. These logs are used for security and to keep the site running. The site’s fonts and images are served from this site itself, not from third-party services.
What this site does not do
- It has no user accounts and no comments.
- It has no newsletter and sends no push notifications.
- It does not sell or rent your information, and it shows no ads.
Your rights
You can ask us what information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it, through the contact form. You can withdraw analytics consent with “Cookie settings”. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
